Secret Sister
I went home at lunch today (like I do 95% of the time). When I drove by my mail box something caught my eye. I slammed on the brakes and baked up. There was a 12 pack of Dr. Pepper sitting there! What's this?! I jumped out and grabbed it. There on the top of the box was a card. It is a gift from my Secret Sister! Yummy.
My Secret Sister is one of three women in my "small group" (aka bible study group).
Due to the time of day and location of gift I have now knocked one lady off my list of possibilities. Only two to go.
All three women are on facebook, so I know they will see this post. So I have my eye one you. And I WILL figure out which of you it is before next June!
So you will have to out trick the trickster!
Daily Digest Update
Newsgroups
Do you belong to newsgroups? Do you know what they are? Let's assume you do. Otherwise you needs to call you ISP (assuming you know what that is) and have your connection disconnected.
Wow, I am being mean today. Sorry.
So I belong to several groups. The majority of them through Yahoo. I own two myself. I use to belong to more but received way to many messages. Yes I know you can do a daily digest, but they are more difficult to read.
I had a question to ask the other day and knew that the best way to get a quick answer was to rejoin this one group. *sigh* so I did. I promptly received my answer! Then I decided to go ahead and stay with the group. I started to wonder why I left the group. It didn't take very long for me to remember why. Way to many replies to the same darn question. Everyone has to get their two cents worth in. Sit's such a shame because there is some really good info.
So we will see if I stick with it.
aMazing Barn Party
Anyhow.
The Youth Director (I assume that is what he is) at our church hosts a barn party every year on his property. The main attraction is a MAZE. It is awesome. You do it in the dark and you go round and round, back and forth, up and down. You walk, you crawl and you go down slides. It took us 45 minutes. It was great.
Well. Accept for the slides. remember a few weeks ago I fell down while hiking with friends. My ankle was almost back to normal and then I got to go down slides. Everytime I hit the ground I landed in my bad ankle. Oh the pain. Two times I had to just lay there and wait for the pain to lesson before I could walk again. My friend Mike was working one of the areas and he was going to give me a "out" but I said no I want to finish. I did take him up on his offer to skip one slide but other then that I got though.
Next year I will just volunteer to help. That is safer!
Email in Question
Dear Sandi and Cxxl,
I am writing to both of you together because I know that you share emails, work closely in GS projects and frankly, what I'm writing about is for both of you. At the SU meeting I was really exasperated by the frustration and negativity from both of you.
I hope that we can get some of your frustrations worked out, because it is really unacceptable to have so much negativity overwhelm a meeting and be uncomfortable for new leaders, as well as everyone else. Being two of the most experienced leaders I would hope that at SU meetings you would be welcoming of new leaders, share your most positive experiences and be more a part of the team. I would hope that you would look to the GS Law and be friendly and helpful, and considerate and caring...and so on.
I think that your 2 recent challenges are 1) that you disagree with the way that Sxxa is running things on a staff level and 2) that the training that you attended did not meet your expectations. First of all, I'll tell you that I have spoken with Sxxa and Lxxa in detail based on your complaints. Not only was I satisfied with what Sxxa has done and has planned, but more importantly, Lxxa, her supervisor, is very pleased with her work.
Since Bxxb is going to return to your area and do a follow-up training tailored to your request, I imagine that this challenge is resolved. Bxxb is a wealth of knowledge and experience and is such a dear for going back to ensure that you have the information that you need. Also, if you don't want to work with Journeys, you could certainly choose not to. There are plenty of other opportunities with IP's, awards, etc. to keep your girls involved. Just because we are all excited about them, doesn't mean that you must use them.
Hopefully we can put these issues behind us and move on with a positive outlook to creating a great GS experience for you, your troops and the rest of the volunteers and girls in Ukiah.
Thanks,
Dxxh
Wrong boots
<-- right boots (but in gray)When our Kohl's store opened we went and checked it out. Heather found a pair of boots she like but I couldn't purchase them right then. I went back a couple of week later and they still had them and they cost even less. So I picked them up. She tried them on and said they were a little large. So we returned them. But, they did not have her size. So customer service said to use the courtesy phone and call Kohl's.com and they would order and ship them to me. OK, so I did. Well they arrived yesterday.
Wrong brand, Wrong color, Wrong Size. But the shipping receipt was correct.
So we went back to the store. I explained what had happened. So I went through the process all over again. They told me they would expedite the order. (and yes Peggy this is the short version of this story, LOL) totally wrong boots --->
Pre-made Jell-o Cups!
So for those of you that don't know (which is probably 98% of you) Greg no longer works at Windsor Bowl! After the fire at my work Gene asked if Greg wanted to help with the clean-up. So for about 6 weeks he worked 7 days a week. Five at his job and 2 at mine. Finally Greg asked if he could work here full time. Well I put the bug in Gene's ear and gave him time to digest the idea. Then Greg asked.
Anyhow,
Greg brings his lunch to work now. They (the laborers) only get 30 minutes. And frankly that is not enough time to go anywhere. So he packs his lunch. And for those of you that know me well you know that I DO NOT PACK LUNCHES!
So we were at Wally World the other day and he picked up some lunch meat. Then I asked him if there was anything else he wanted. He said yes he wanted jell-o cups. He explained that his co-workers bring them and they look good. More conversation took place, we paid and went home.
Flash forward to our house . . .
Heather is sitting in the living room and asked what we got. I told her and then I told her that "Daddy asked for jello-o cups." She stared daggers at me (I am so proud of her, LOL). Anyhow, I looked her in the eye and said "Heather tell daddy what I told him." She smiles and turned around and said "WE DON'T PURCHASE PRE-MADE JELL-O WHEN WE CAN MAKE IT AT HOME FOR CHEAPER. WE CAN EVEN ADD FRUIT TO IT. AND WE ARE NOT ADDING MORE GARBAGE TO OUR LANDFILL!"
sniff, sniff, I am so proud!
Fall Down Go Boom!
My friends and I have upped out walking to five days a week. Three days at Todd Grove Park and two day at Low Gap Park. The difference is that Todd Grove is a city park. Fairly flat. Your typical park. Low Gap is more of a wilderness park. Full of hiking trails with trees and hills.
So up, up, up we go. Then we get to the top and I usually say something dumb like "I'm the King of the world". We catch our breath and head down. We get to one fork and one way is straight down and covered with leaves. The other is also pretty steep but no leaves. So we choose that was because it looks less slippery. But the ground is covered with a dusting of light top soil and tree roots. And that is where it happened.
All of a sudden my foot slipped and I think I hit a root and down I went. My water bottle flew out of my hand, hit the ground and slid. I ripped the pocket of my jeans. Luckily my cell phone still works. And luckily I had it in my pocket with the screen facing my behind otherwise it would have been a mess. Handing off my other pocket was my GPSr. I took it with me to see how far we hiked. That is also in good working order.
What isn't working so well is my right leg. I tell you I heard some popping and I was going down. That night I was up for two hours in pain. Wednesday I hobbled around pretty well. Yesterday I even walked with my friends. I am still a little stiff, but all in all I have healed very quickly (considering my age).
As I was laying there in the dirt trying to figure out if I broke anything I told Denise and Peggy. "You know we don't heal as quickly as we use to"
